Have you ever felt fear? Have you ever had the desire to look away, but yet were unable to?
The same thing is happening to Gilgamesh, he griefs his friend's death and yet has the desire to save him, to find a way to bring him back, but he can't, even being two-thirds of a god can't help him right now. Just like when you are watching a horror movie, you want to look away, no, you HAVE to look away, yet there is some kind of force that doesn't allow you to look away, even if you are able to, its only for a few seconds, because the desire to look back is too overpowering.
Gilgamesh begins his journey with the purpose of finding a way to bring Enkidu back, not only to help his friend, but out of fear of the same fate finding its way to him. That the gods decide he doesn't deserve to live either, that he has to die. His journey takes him to places were he is put to test, can he get over some obstacles and find his way to Utnapishtimn the only way he can find the answer to save Enkidu?
Friendship is one of the most powerful things someone can encounter. It leads people to do crazy things, things they would never have done before, to help or save someone dear to them. It is a strong bond formed between people, almost as if they were family. Having people who care for you at your best and at your worst is something that can't be just thrown away. This kind of bond can be found between Enkidu and Gilgamesh, they care for each other as family and companions would care for one another. The fact that Gilgamesh goes through a mind blowing journey to find a way to help Enkidu is proof of that. Gilgamesh giving up his royal ways, to start sleeping in the dirt, clothing with the fur and skin of his kills is something huge to do for a friend, not just anyone does that.
Gilgamesh meets new people that are helping him get closer and closer to what he was seeking for, but is that going to be enough? Will the help of new characters lead him to an encounter with his greatly missed friend?
